LiqTech & The IMO Sulphur Cap
At LiqTech, we
have long-term experience working with top marine water scrubber manufacturers,
shipowners, and shipyards, and we have a market-proven solution to obtain
constant IMO compliance.
In January
2020, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) implemented a new lower cap
on sulfur emissions for international shipping to obtain a cleaner shipping
industry. Inside the Emission Control Areas (ECA), the regulations are even
stricter. This sets new standards for how ships should treat their scrubber
wastewater.
We are here to
remove unburned fuel oil, soot particles, ash, and heavy metals from water and
take an active role in reducing world pollution. We care about the future, and
at the same time, about growth. We see it as our mission to enable companies to
grow stronger while meeting tomorrow's environmental demands. That means the
world to us.
LiqTech has
developed a compact and efficient water scrubber treatment system for both
closed-loop and hybrid scrubbers that outperforms discharge limits regulated by
the IMO. Working with market leaders for several years, we have successfully
installed retrofit and new-build scrubber water treatment systems on hundreds
of vessels.
l Market-proven solution
l Ideal for retrofit installation
l Future-proof solution
l Selected by market leaders
l Guaranteed compliance with IMO discharge regulations
l Remote service and support 24/7 – anywhere in the world
Selected by Market Leaders Worldwide
Hundreds of
vessels are already compliant with future environmental requirements.
LiqTech's
marine scrubber wastewater systems are installed on hundreds of vessels
worldwide. Our industry leaders' references include vessels such as cruise
ships, Ro-Ro passenger ships, Ro-Ro cargo ships, container ships, bulk
carriers, tanker ships, etc.
The water
scrubber treatment solution from LiqTech secures compliance with environmental
requirements and reduces scrubber sludge handling costs. We have experience
with all types of alkali used (Mg-compounds, NaOH, Na₂CO₃).
Water Scrubber Treatment with Superior Properties
For more than
two decades, we have manufactured filtration products of recrystallized silicon
carbide (SiC). Our silicon carbide membrane technology and scrubber wastewater
treatment systems will provide unique advantages for your business.
BENEFITS OF THE LIQTECH SYSTEMS
l Constant IMO-compliance
l Minimal sludge production and handling cost in combination with dewatering
l Most robust membrane technology providing system durability
l Mechanical separation, providing consistently high water quality
l Highest recovery rate in the market
l Capable of heavy metal removal
l Fully automated solution
l Flexible system for different sailing profiles
l Modular system design for flexible installation and capacity upgrades
l Low-pressure system with low energy consumption
BENEFITS OF SIC MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY
l Unmatched flux
SiC membranes have the highest flux of any membrane
l Small footprint
One of the smallest footprints for complete systems in the market
l Excellent thermal properties
Our SiC membranes can withstand temperatures of 800°C
l Unmatched performance
High performance, low total cost of ownership and low maintenance
l Chemically inert
Our systems can withstand the full pH spectrum of 0-14
l Efficient cleaning
Any chemical can be used for cleaning, resulting in very low membrane fouling
l Robustness
SiC is the second hardest material in the world next to diamonds
l Long service life - less maintenance
Fully automated system with less downtime and stable operation
Filtration Process for Marine Water Scrubbers
Our scrubber
water treatment solution will treat the water from the scrubber tower, and then
it is sent back to the scrubber tower for reuse. This enables the water
scrubber to run in a closed-loop with no wastewater discharged overboard.
Instead, the particles are filtered and concentrated in the silicon carbide
membranes and further dewatered in a filter press, providing bulk discharge of
dry waste to a waste handling station while in port.
Modular Design for Flexible Installation
LiqTech’s
innovative modular design makes installing the marine scrubber wastewater
solution on retrofits and new builds easy. The modular and flexible water
scrubber solution makes it possible to further increase capacity after
installation if needed.
l Separation of filter skid for ease of installation
l Easy to upgrade capacity
l Low maintenance
